Notes

Anaerobically, glycine probably cannot be oxidized to form the probable thiamine biosynthetic intermediate dehydroglycine, so it is derived from tyrosine by the action of the tyrosine lyase ThiH; the products of the in vitro ThiH reaction are para-cresol and hydroglycine (Kriek, 2007). In E. coli B, para-cresol is probably converted to 4-hydroxy-benzoyl alcohol in vivo by an oxidase that is missing from K strains (Kriek, 2007), and thus 4-hydroxy-benzoyl alcohol is probably not the primary tyrosine cleavage product as previously suggested (White, 1979). Radical SAM superfamily.[4]
