Wzc, but not Wzc-P, activates colanic acid synthesis, needed for capsule production. Wzc-P is dephosphorylated in vivo and in vitro by the Wzb phosphatase. Wzc-P is also dephosphorylated in vitro by the cryptic Etp phosphatase. Wzc has ATPAse activity (Soulat, 2007).[4]
