Talk:Essential genes

I'm not sure how to add genes to the essentials list that were reported as non-essential by Gerdes, but have been shown by other, "low-throughput" methods to be essential. I've added the strains in question to the essential evidence table. In general, I don't like the methodology for adding essential genes back to the list. Some of the Keio strains have known problems, but removing the bad alleles from the gene pages seems like a mistake; after all, these alleles are still availabe from CGSC. I originally edited these alleles to say that they were not good (duplications), which seems like a better way of letting people know that the mutation is bad, rather than sweeping it under the rug.

I agree that this page needs work. I am thinking that the way to do this is to have a set of tags in the phenotype tables that would allow this page to harvest information from individual gene pages, including notes on problematic assignments. --JimHu (talk) 11:20, 29 May 2013 (CDT)
