MG1655 fhuACDB(del) endA(del) + deletion of 699 additional genes, including all IS elements and cryptic prophages
Most of the deletions in MDS42 were constructed by lambda Red-mediated recombination of linear fragments into the genome, followed by removal of exogenous sequences by double strand break (DSB)-stimulated recombination. The individual deletions are described in the Supporting Online Material.
Compared to MG1655, MDS42 has 663,316 bp deleted (14.3% of the original genome). Deletion of fhuACDB confers resistance to phage T1. The endA gene was deleted to improve the integrity of plasmid DNA isolated from this strain.
