MG1655 fhuACDB(del) endA(del) + deletion of 699 additional genes, including all IS elements and cryptic prophages<ref name='PMID:16645050'/>

==Phenotypes==

==Construction==
Most of the deletions in MDS42 were constructed by lambda Red-mediated recombination of linear fragments into the genome, followed by removal of exogenous sequences by double strand break (DSB)-stimulated recombination.<ref name='PMID:16645050'/> The individual deletions are described in the [http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/data/1126439/DC1/1 Supporting Online Material].

==Notes==
Compared to MG1655, MDS42 has 663,316 bp deleted (14.3% of the original genome).<ref name='PMID:16645050'/> Deletion of ''fhuACDB'' confers resistance to phage T1. The ''endA'' gene was deleted to improve the integrity of plasmid DNA isolated from this strain.
