pGEM-4Z contains the lacZ α-peptide and multiple cloning region arrangement from pUC18. Also, it has SP6 and T7 RNA polymerase promoters surrounding the multiple cloning region on either side. pGEM-4Z is useful as a standard cloning vector and for high-efficiency synthesis of RNA in vitro. It also allows for the simple blue/white color screening of recombinant clones. pGEM-4Z differs from pGEM-3Z in its orientation of the SP6 and T7 promoters.
