Notes
<protect></protect>
The deoR gene is found immediately upstream of the operon. DeoR encodes a repressor protein that negatively regulates the expression of the operon at the level of transcription. A deoR-deficient mutant has a high level of deoxyriboaldolase and pyrimidine nucleoside phosphorylase. [5] In deoR mutations, the repressor is absent and the colonies of the mutants grow more rapidly (Munch-Peterson, et al, Eur. J. Biochem 27: 208-215 (1972)).
