Notes

ApbE probably helps convert aminoimidazole ribotide AIR, a purine intermediate, to the 4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-2-methyl pyrimidine HMP moiety of thiamine. Localized to the inner membrane, periplasmic location, but not membrane anchor, is required for function. First 19 aa are a type II signal peptide.[4]
