Where did Escherichia coli come from?
Background
Studies on the lineage of E. coli, such as that published by Touchon et al. (2009), are attempting to delineate the phylogenetic relationships of many E. coli and Shigella strains. As the number of complete genome sequences continues grows, so too will the requirement to study the relationships between these strains.
