About ExPASy proteomics server
The ExPASy proteomics server is the site people mean when they talk about SwissProt. In fact, the website is a portal to several proteome-related services provided by the Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics in collaboration, in many cases, with the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI).
Content
Major database components of the ExPASy proteomics server include:
- UniProt KnowledgeBase (EcoliWiki Page) :a curated protein sequence database which strives to provide a high level of annotation (such as the description of the function of a protein, its domains structure, post-translational modifications, variants, etc.), a minimal level of redundancy and high level of integration with other databases.
- SWISS-MODEL (EcoliWiki Page):a database of annotated three-dimensional comparative protein structure models generated by the fully automated homology-modelling pipeline SWISS-MODEL.
- SWISS-2DPAGE :contains data on proteins identified on various 2-D PAGE and SDS-PAGE reference maps.
- ENZYME :a repository of information relative to the nomenclature of enzymes.
Expasy also provides many online software tools.
