EcoliWiki:Team Plasmid Comments

From EcoliWiki

Below are comments provided by the first team of students to input plasmid content for the EcoliWiki. Since September of 2007 they have added 326 plasmids with 121 subcategories. For plasmids for which companies did not provide maps for, students created the maps using Gene Construction Kit.

Working on the Wiki was really easy once you learned how to make edits and changes. Sometimes information was hard to find due in part to the limited resources some of the companies provided. Overall my experience working with Team Plasmid on the EcoliWiki was a great one. One piece of advice I'd give to future workers would be to never get behind.

The wiki is very easy to navigate once you get used to it. Entering information is not difficult, but relevant information can be hard to find. Your first page may seem very confusing, as it was for me. I would suggest that someone sit down with you for the first page, help you edit it, and then you can reference the first one as you do new pages. I know that was really helpful for me. But overall, I enjoyed working on it.

Editing and navigating the wiki pages was easy once I got used to it. Finding and entering information and making sure that it was all correct was fairly easy, although some times the information was not as readily available as others. Often, I found that the references listed did not have very pertinent information but that was to be expected. Overall, it was a fluid experience.

I thought that at first the pages were a bit difficult to navigate and get used to. Once I did a few it became easier and almost second nature. Hopefully all the information that I posted was correct and useful in the future. It was also a bit mind numbing after a while because we were doing the same thing over and over again. A change of pace would have been nice a little sooner in the semester. I kind of got behind a little bit on some of my weeks and it was a task to catch up. Overall I would say that this was a learning experience. This was my first research experience and if I would give any advice it would be to keep up with your work and try to learn something from what you are doing.
