Category:Complex:pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex
Comments (originally from EcoCyc) The reaction is the gateway to the TCA cycle, producing acetylCoA for the first reaction. It is similar in composition and action to the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase multi-enzyme complex. In animals, the reaction is regulated by phosphorylation of the E1 component, but not in E. coli. It is a multi-enzyme complex composed of three separate enzyme complexes and carries out the following series of reactions where E1, 2 and 3 are the three enzyme complexes making up the multi-enzyme complex. The complex is referred to as the pyruvate dehydrogenase multi-enzyme complex.
