About

Description (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex

Comments (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) The reaction is the gateway to the TCA cycle, producing acetylCoA for the first reaction. It is similar in composition and action to the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase multi-enzyme complex. In animals, the reaction is regulated by phosphorylation of the E1 component, but not in E. coli. It is a multi-enzyme complex composed of three separate enzyme complexes and carries out the following series of reactions where E1, 2 and 3 are the three enzyme complexes making up the multi-enzyme complex. The complex is referred to as the pyruvate dehydrogenase multi-enzyme complex. [3]
