Phenylhydantoinase is a novel enzyme exhibiting activity toward hydantoin derivatives with an aromatic side chain at the 5' position, but does not readily hydrolyze simple cyclic ureides.[1] The highest activity was observed with phenylhydantoin and hydroxyphenylhydantoin.[1]
