About
Description (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) 3-(2,3-dihydroxyphenyl)propionate dioxygenase
Comments (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) E. coli is able to utilize aromatic acids as carbon and energy sources. 3-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)propionate dioxygenase catalyzes the reaction at the point where the branched meta-cleavage degradation pathway meets. One branch catabolizes 3-phenylpropionate the other catabolizes 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)propionate. 3-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)propionate dioxygenase is the only enzyme of the pathway that has been characterized.
