About

Description (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) threonine dehydratase (catabolic)

Comments (originally from EcoCyc[1][2]) There are two threonine dehydratases found in E. coli, a biosynthetic enzyme coded for by the ilvA gene and a catabolic enzyme coded for by the tdcB gene. The biosynthetic enzyme is part of isoleucine biosynthesis. The catabolic enzyme is part of the threonine degradation pathway. Glyoxylate irreversibly inactivates the enzyme, releasing pyridoxal phosphate and changing the conformation of the subunits. [3]
