[[Category:Bioinformatics file formats]]

FASTQ is a file format for storing data from DNA sequencing. FASTQ stores sequence quality scores as well as the sequence itself. Much of the data in the [[NCBI Short Read Archive]] is in the FASTQ format. Solexa/Illumina output also encodes quality scores, but uses a different system than FASTQ.
