Although related to arginine, ornithine and putrescine carbamoyltransferases, YgeW is in a distinct clade, indicative of a novel activity (Naumoff, 2004). YgeW is suggested to be an oxamate carbamoyltransferases (transcarbamylase) involved in purine catabolism (Hualin, 2000).[4]
