Standard Name

uspC

Gene Synonym(s)

yecG, ECK1894, b1895, JW1884[1][2], JW1884

Product Desc.

universal stress protein[2][3]

Stress-induced protein; UV-resistance[4]

Product Synonyms(s)

universal stress protein[1], B1895[2][1], UspC[2][1], YecG[2][1] , ECK1894, JW1884, yecG, b1895

Function from GO

<GO_nr />

Knock-Out Phenotype

UspC null mutants lack flagella and are thus completely nonmotile (Nachin et al, 2005; PMID:16159758[5]). UspC null mutants also are sensitive to UV irradiation (Gustavsson et al, 2002; PMID:11849540[6])

Regulation/Expression

transcription unit(s): uspC[2]

Regulation/Activity

Upregulated in response to a variety of stressors in a ppGpp dependent manner (Gustavsson et al, 2002; PMID:11849540[6]).
